Orthodox Church of St Nicholas in Tallinn

Vene 24, Tallinn

Built: 1827

The first classical church building (architects Luigi Rusca, Johann Daniel Bantelmann) in Tallinn, preceded by a church for Orthodox merchants in the same place already in the Middle Ages. Because of its long history, the church has the unique and oldest Estonian iconostasis - a sculptured wall consecrated by the Russian Tsarina Sophia Alekseyevna in 1678 and made by the masters of Pskov and the Moscow armoury by the commission of the Tsarevitches Ivan and Peter (future Peter I).
